Timetable


Preliminary program and three main objectives

  1. To become informed about each other's creative work
  2. To co-create in a microcosm of peace
  3. To take the work produced in Gotland to be performed in Cyprus as a demonstration of the co-operation of the artists from the two communities for reapproachment and peace.
  4. To meet and exchange views and ideas with Swedish collegues and to strengthen the European cultural cooperation.

Session by the Poets

The target: To prepare a book of translated poetry in two languages.

Method: The poets will pair up and with the help of translators, will translate each other's poems through consulting each other and having discussions about possible expressions and wording.

Session by the Painters

The Target: To prepare an exhibition that will take place in both sides of the island.

Method: The painters will be painting together and adding details to each other's canvases.

Session by the Musicians

The Target: To prepare music performances to be held in both sides or at the UN controlled buffer zone in Cyprus. ( In case there will be no permissions the performances will be given to the Cypriot community in London and video-recordings will be shown on both sides).

Method: The two guitarists Dimitris Reginos and Unal Dede will be practicing together for the performance.

The singers Katie Economidiou and Can Tufan will be singing together accompanied by the guitarists.

The guitarists will also be improvising for Arriana Oikononomoi to do a modern dance performance.

Theatre Session

The Target: To prepare a play which will be performed on both sides of Cyprus or at the UN controlled buffer zone. In case no permissions will be given in both cases the play will be performed to the Cypriot community living in London and video recordings will be shown on both sides.

Method: The group is composed of two Turkish Cypriot actors and a Greek Cypriot actor and actress. They will be performing Aristophanes' Lysistrate bi-lingually. The play is in Cypriot dialect in Greek and is already being translated to Turkish. It has four characters, in which two have silent roles. It will be great fun because they will be using common words that are in the language of both Greek and Turkish Cypriots. And the theme is on Peace

The session of Photographers

The target: To open exhibitions on both sides of the island.

The two photographers will be photographing the whole workshop under the theme of creating togetherness.

The Swedish party will prepare joint meetings after respective session.

1st day (26th of July)

13.00-15.00 Introduction

Opening speeches and Briefing about the program
A speech by Peter Curman, President of KLYS
A speech by Mr Hernan Crespo-Toral, head of UNESCO cultural department
Two speeches by poets Niki Marangue and Neshe Yashin

Introduction of Participants:

Sitting in a circle each participant will introduce himself or herself by telling their names and surnames and talking about the meaning of their names and why this name was given to them (This will also serve as an ice breaking method and will help the participants to remember each other's names and will provide more informal information about each other. Since most names come from the mythologies and religions of the cultures it will provide an opportunity to blend the cultures)

15.00-17.00 Presentations of painters

Each painter will have their time to introduce their work either through slides and lecturing or through other creative ways. The Turkish Cypriot painter Emin Chizenel has prepared a performance which is called "The first supper of Jesus" where he will invite 12 participants to take part).

17.00 Show of the feature film "Bicycle kick in the Coffin" by Dervis Zaim

20.00 Welcome dinner with Swedish collegues
