ECA Aims of Action
The European Council of Artists will:
- Assist and support in establishing
interdisciplinary umbrella bodies of artists nationally
- Monitor legislation and political
initiatives within the EU and other political
institutions of Europe which, directly or indirectly
influence on professional artists and their artistic,
social, working, judicial and economic situation.
- Ensure the dialogue and exchange of
experience and information between professional artists
and between their organisations on a European, national
and regional level
- Ensure dialogue and exchange of
information between these artists'
organisations/associations and the political institutions
and decisionmakers of Europe.
- Aim at a democratic, cultural and artistic
development in Europe, respecting and raising the status
of the professional artists on a profound legal basis and
the influence of the arts on the development in the
society on European, national and regional level.
- Act as an advisory body and a body of
information and service for the members of the ECA and
the political decisionmakers and political institutions
of Europe.
- Work towards turning UNESCO
recommendations on artists into action
- Ensure mobility of artists and their works
- Address the issue of quality of production
- Ensure minimum levels of public support of
the arts and professional artists. Ensure appropriate
public funding reaches creators and supports creativity.
- Ensure adequate attention to process.
- Ensure the protection of artistic freedom
of speech, above any political, religious or economic
interest.
- Take action in establishing good practice
in relationships between artists and those with whom they
interact
- Affirm, defend and harmonise the
intellectual property rights of European artists
