The Board for the Chairmen of Georgian Creative Unions:
Manifesto

Manana Dumbatze

Manana Dumbatze

"Georgian Culture is up to despair" - this current phrase is often heared in the theatre lobby, at school, at writers' meetings, in the village clubs, at art exhibitions, movie theatres, concert halls etc.

You can hear it even at Parliament sessions.

The problem is that everybody understands the meaning of this phrase in his own way or doesn't understand it at all.

We must save our culture, which is on the verge of being or not being. But how can it be done?

How can we save our culture when the leaders of the country, do not seem to care much about it, they treat culture as of a secondary importance phenomenon trying to diminish its importance, value and traditional understanding.

How can we save culture if the process of spiritual development of the nation has been stopped, even more, it has started to move backwards. All this caused the facts of totalitarian barbarity and zoological individualism, which are revealed nearly in every day life of the society.

How can we save our culture, when the ignorance of national values, nihilism, flattering towards everything that is foreign has become acceptable and normal. Now, without bounds, our country is provided with enormous amount of denationalized mass culture attracting the same amount of its admirers - tragically blind, astonishingly capable to absorb all the poison, tasteless radicalism and talented to retranslate abnormality and ugliness. What is flourishing now is the process of vulgarization of eternal values and the tendency of the internationalization of national problems inaccurately.

It seems the term culture does not accidentally imply the meaning "cultivate" - The mass culture is cultivating the nation, the society from outside.

Apocrypha of civilization against a national spirit!

It is when there is no national-cultural and historical conception within us any more: Soul is lost in the labyrinths of prejudice. Criteria of truth is like a Brocken compass, human being has becomes an isolated subject, which has finally lost his contact with the surrounding world and the world is running away from him as well.

Crucial condition of culture in this utterly vague epoch makes us declare:

Save Culture and Culture will save us! We believe, one day the State will reveal more humane and traditional interest to the national origin in culture and support it.

Culture is in all fractions of the society, it is neither petrified nor eternally formed phenomenon. It is a permanently changeable and a tender organism needing a special and permanent care.

We shouldn't deny it that really exists and makes a sense of existence. We should remember that Culture must not be violated. Otherwise the results of violation will boomerang on us.

Let's go back to the vital source, which will change the fatal reality.

We believe that unification of creative professionals is the most important stages in salvation of culture.

With this reason we are establishing The Board for the Chairmen of Georgian Creative Unions. The board will work on the basis of equal rights of cooperation to save the backbone of our spirituality - culture - not to mix false with genuine, lie with truth and protect our epoch from staying beyond history.

We are well aware that we can't win the war with a violin or a pen, but we can save the soul capable to win a war.

Georgia will survive if we keep together! Culture will save Georgia!
